Politics, courts and sports collided on Election Day 2014. The new Falcons stadium’s fate will now rest in the hands of the Georgia Supreme Court.
That’s right.
Thought it was a “done deal”? Most people do.
There is a group of citizens challenging the city’s use of public funds to help pay for the stadium. Monday Novemeber 3rd, those citizens and attorneys for the City of Atlanta argued before the Court.
The Court must decide whether or not to uphold an earlier decision by a Fulton County Superior Court judge. This judge approved the bonds that will be used to help pay for the stadium backed by taxes on hotels.
For now, the Falcons are paying the cost of building the stadium. The cost has risen recently to $1.3 billion.
